Thoughts of all K-9 handlers.
K-9 Handlers have a very special relationship with their dogs and over time that grows. They feel a great loss when something happens to their partner. This section is dedicated to those gone but not forgotten....
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
With Handler BJ Johnson.
Monroe County Sheriff's Dept. K-9 Brondo was born July 28, 1997 and passed away August 6, 2008. He has seized over a hundred cars, nearly a thousand pounds of drugs and several thousand dollars in U.S. currency.
The record shows we had 202 call outs or tracks, finding 187. Out of the 187, 155 were bites.
He is credited for saving 3 lives.
In 2001 Brondo tracked 2 boys, ages 3 and 5, with in a few feet of a lake. They said they were going fishing. Neither boy could swim.
In the winter of 2003 Brondo tracked an elderly man with Alzheimer's in a wooded area. Where he found him lying under some brush freezing to death.
In 2004 Brondo was called in to track a disturbed man who had cut himself with a Bowie knife from elbow to hand. As the paramedics were waiting for a helicopter to take him to the hospital he took off running. Brondo found him in some heavy brush, unconscious and was bleeding out.
Brondo was called out by neighboring agencies and the U.S. Marshall's office numerous times. He has won several events, tracking being his best. Brondo also served his country working in Iraq.
